Our Verdict
The Nubia Z80 Ultra offers flagship specs at a mid-range price. While it excels in performance and battery life, areas like design and camera quality could use refinement. Overall, it’s a compelling option for those seeking power on a budget.
Design & Build
The Nubia Z80 Ultra boasts a unique design with a retro camera aesthetic. While the Starry Night edition makes a statement, the overall look may not appeal to all users. The phone is bulky at 8.6mm and 227g, but its build quality is commendable, featuring IP68/IP69 certification for water resistance. The choice of finishes includes Black, White, and Blue, with the special Starry Night Edition standing out.
Screen & Speakers
Featuring a 6.85-inch 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate, the Z80 Ultra offers a sharp and smooth viewing experience. The under-display selfie camera allows for an uninterrupted screen space. However, the stereo speakers, while decent, lack in bass performance at higher volumes.
Specs & Performance
Powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and up to 24GB of RAM, the Z80 Ultra delivers top-notch performance. Benchmark tests showcase its class-leading speed and graphics capabilities. The phone handles demanding tasks and gaming with ease, rivaling even flagship devices.
Cameras
Equipped with a 50Mp main sensor, a 64Mp telephoto lens, and a 50Mp ultra-wide camera, the Z80 Ultra offers a versatile camera setup. While capable of capturing detailed shots, the camera UI and image processing leave room for improvement. The selfie camera, located under the display, disappoints with low-quality images.
Battery Life & Charging
One of the highlights of the Z80 Ultra is its massive 7200mAh battery, providing exceptional endurance. The phone supports 80W wired charging, delivering quick charging speeds. Wireless charging, a new addition, further enhances the convenience of power management.
Software & AI
Running on Android 16 with Nebula AIOS 2.0, the Z80 Ultra offers a customized user experience. While the UI is fast and intuitive, the software lacks in AI features and timely updates. The inclusion of unnecessary features like the Z-board screen detracts from the user experience.
Price & Availability
The Nubia Z80 Ultra offers competitive pricing, starting at £579 for the base model. Available in different RAM and storage configurations, the phone provides a cost-effective option for users seeking high performance. Despite some shortcomings, the Z80 Ultra presents a compelling value proposition compared to other devices in its price range.
Should You Buy the Nubia Z80 Ultra?
If you prioritize performance and battery life over design and camera quality, the Nubia Z80 Ultra is a strong contender. With flagship-level specs at a mid-range price, this device offers tremendous value for users looking for power on a budget. However, those expecting a flawless experience may find some aspects of the phone lacking.
In conclusion, the Nubia Z80 Ultra delivers remarkable performance and features at an attractive price point, making it a worthy consideration for tech enthusiasts seeking a powerful yet affordable smartphone.
