Huawei has unveiled its latest smartwatch offering, the Huawei Watch 5, positioning it as the flagship model in conjunction with the more cost-effective Fit 4 and Fit 4 Pro activity trackers. This new addition to the Huawei lineup boasts two size variants and an optional titanium casing, along with a cutting-edge ‘X-Tap’ sensor.
In a bid to compete more effectively with industry giants like Apple, Samsung, and Google, Huawei now presents the Watch 5 in 42mm or 46mm sizes. The innovative X-Tap sensor, located on the side of the watch case, incorporates pressure, ECG, and PPG sensors for enhanced health monitoring capabilities, even measuring blood oxygen levels akin to a traditional pulse oximeter.
Powered by the latest HarmonyOS, the Huawei Watch 5 supports eSIM functionality for a more independent user experience. With access to the AppGallery app store, users can enjoy new gesture controls allowing for convenient interaction by sliding or double-tapping their fingers to manage alarms, calls, or music playback.
Sporting over 100 sports modes and improved GPS tracking for water activities, the Watch 5 also features dual-band GPS for heightened accuracy during outdoor pursuits near tall structures or wooded areas. Depending on the case size, the 46mm version offers up to 4.5 days of typical usage, while the 42mm model provides up to 3 days, with both versions offering a smart battery mode to extend battery life up to 7-11 days.
In parallel with the Watch 5, Huawei introduces the Fit 4 and Fit 4 Pro models, designed to rival Apple’s Series 10 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. These fitness-focused wearables come in various colors, are waterproof up to 50 meters, and offer advanced features like built-in GPS, air pressure sensors, and enhanced GPS tracking for water sports.
The Fit 4 series boasts AMOLED displays surrounded by aluminum or titanium, depending on the model. Both the Fit 4 and Fit 4 Pro incorporate air pressure sensors and cutting-edge dual-band GPS technology for accurate tracking during activities like surfing and rowing. Additionally, the Pro model offers advanced features such as heart rate variability tracking for stress insights and an ECG sensor.
With HarmonyOS at the helm, users can access the AppGallery, utilize a built-in music player, and leverage an AI voice assistant when paired with a Huawei smartphone. The Fit series promises up to 7 days of regular use and 10 days in power-saving mode.
The Huawei Watch 5 is now available for purchase, starting at £399 in the UK, while the Fit 4 and Fit 4 Pro are priced at £149 and £249, respectively. While US pricing and availability remain undisclosed, these new offerings from Huawei provide a compelling blend of style and functionality in the competitive smartwatch market.
