I recently had the opportunity to spend a week with Oppo’s latest flagship, the Find X8 Ultra, in partnership with Hasselblad, the renowned photography company. This camera phone boasts impressive features that are giving industry giants like Google and Samsung a run for their money.

The Find X8 Ultra stands out with its 1-inch type sensor, significantly larger than those found in mainstream flagships like the iPhone 16 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra. This larger sensor allows for better performance in low-light conditions and enhanced background blur, akin to what you’d experience with a professional camera.

What truly sets the Find X8 Ultra apart is its camera array, featuring ultrawide, periscope telephoto, and dedicated color spectrum sensors—all with a 50Mp resolution. Despite this array, the phone manages to maintain a slim profile, showcasing exceptional engineering prowess.

Beyond hardware, the magic lies in Hasselblad’s image processing expertise. The collaboration brings unique features like the Hasselblad-tuned Master Mode, film simulations, and advanced manual controls, elevating the photography experience.

During my time with the Find X8 Ultra, I was consistently impressed by the photo quality across various settings. From capturing intricate details to vibrant colors, the cameras delivered exceptional results. The 3x and 6x telephoto lenses performed admirably, allowing for detailed close-ups and digital zooming without compromising quality.

While the phone excels in most areas, the ultrawide camera fell slightly short of expectations. However, for stunning portraits and versatile photography, the rear cameras proved to be the go-to choice.

In the quest for the best camera phone, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra certainly holds its ground among the top contenders like Xiaomi, Vivo, and Huawei’s Ultra series. Although these phones may be harder to access in Western markets, Oppo’s potential international expansion could shake up the competition.

As Oppo’s partnership with Hasselblad continues to evolve, the future looks promising for photography enthusiasts. While Apple and Samsung currently dominate the market, China’s latest Ultra flagships pose a significant challenge, especially for serious photographers seeking cutting-edge technology.

In conclusion, the Oppo Find X8 Ultra’s exceptional camera capabilities signal a new era in mobile photography—an era that might just make Google and Samsung a tad bit uneasy.
