Hexnode CEO Highlights 3 Crucial Areas Apple Should Address for IT Professionals

Apple’s presence in the enterprise realm continues to surge, marked by a slew of enterprise-centric upgrades for its platforms. This trend is exemplified by the record-breaking adoption of Mac devices. However, there remain areas where Apple can enhance its support for IT operations within organizations. To shed light on potential improvements, I had the opportunity to discuss this matter with Apu Pavithran, the CEO of Hexnode, a prominent device management vendor.

Pavithran emphasized that Apple has demonstrated attentiveness to IT requirements, signaling a promising trajectory ahead. As Apple devices increasingly permeate corporate environments, he believes that aligning with IT needs benefits users, IT teams, and the organizations themselves. However, he pinpointed three key suggestions for Apple to facilitate more effective management of its platforms by IT professionals.

Granular Permissions for Apple Intelligence in Apps

One of the critical suggestions put forth by Pavithran is the need for granular permissions within apps leveraging Apple Intelligence. While Apple’s on-device AI and privacy focus resonate with security-conscious entities, IT administrators require the flexibility to tailor the deployment of Apple Intelligence features on an app-specific basis. This customization would empower organizations to regulate access to intelligence tools based on the sensitivity of the data being handled, thereby upholding control without compromising user experience.

Moreover, Pavithran underscored the significance of personalization and AI integration based on authenticated users rather than devices alone. Such an approach would ensure that AI-generated insights remain relevant by associating them with specific users. This refinement becomes particularly vital in shared device scenarios, where contextual accuracy is pivotal to prevent data cross-contamination in diverse settings like hospitals, classrooms, or retail establishments.

Making Shared Devices Even More Secure

While Apple has laid a robust foundation for managing shared devices through features like Shared iPad and Authenticated Guest Mode, Pavithran advocates for further advancements in this realm. He proposed enhancing Return to Service (RTS) capabilities to offer IT teams more nuanced control over wipe actions and session persistence. By harmonizing shared device functionalities across iOS, macOS, and visionOS, Apple could streamline device setup, configuration, and post-session management, thereby simplifying IT administration and reducing operational friction.

Furthermore, to cater to privacy-focused deployments, Pavithran suggested incorporating session isolation and user sandboxing functionality. These security measures would enable IT departments to efficiently manage devices transitioning between multiple users, a scenario common in sectors like healthcare, logistics, and field operations.

Addressing App Security Concerns

Apple’s App Store stands out as a secure and trusted app distribution platform, pivotal for many enterprises deploying employee-centric applications. The upcoming version-pinning feature for App Store apps, announced at WWDC 2025, signifies a step towards granting IT precise control over app updates within managed environments. However, a significant challenge arises with non-App Store apps that are essential for critical workflows in sectors such as healthcare, logistics, and finance.

To bridge this gap, Pavithran proposed that Apple introduce a dedicated framework enabling enterprises to distribute their apps via the App Store. This strategic move would extend the granular control capabilities of version-pinning to all applications, ensuring consistent management standards across the app ecosystem.

In essence, these highlighted pain points underscore the evolving landscape of Apple’s enterprise integration, accentuating the unique challenges and opportunities faced by organizations leveraging Apple devices. Addressing these areas of improvement not only augments the usability of Apple platforms but also reinforces their suitability for seamless deployment within diverse business environments.

By acknowledging and acting upon these recommendations, Apple can further solidify its position as a preferred choice for IT professionals seeking robust, secure, and tailored solutions for enterprise device management.
