Google Photos on Android has finally caught up with iOS by introducing a long-awaited feature – the ability to ‘Undo device backup.’ This update grants Android users more control over their backed-up photos and videos, aligning them with their iOS counterparts who have enjoyed this functionality since December.
To access this feature on your Android device, simply navigate to the Google Photos app, tap your profile picture, enter Photos settings, and select Backup. From there, scroll down to ‘Undo backup for this device,’ acknowledge the disclaimer, and tap ‘Delete Google Photos backup.’ Voila! Your cloud-stored media will vanish while staying safe on your device.
Interestingly, the ‘Undo backup’ option only appears on Android devices with content already backed up to Google Photos. This discrepancy in feature availability between iOS and Android has left many scratching their heads, given that Android typically receives priority for new Google Photos features.
The recent addition of the ‘Undo device backup’ feature brings a sigh of relief to Android users who can now manage their backups more efficiently. As Google continues to bridge the gap between its Android and iOS offerings, we can expect more feature parity in the future.
