Samsung has unveiled its latest offering, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, a more affordable version of its premium flip phone lineup. Priced at £849/$899, this Fan Edition device presents a compelling option in the folding phone market. While Samsung’s FE series has faced criticism in the past, the Z Flip 7 FE seems poised to turn the tide with its balanced features and price point.
Upon first glance, the Z Flip 7 FE bears a striking resemblance to its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Although its design may seem dated compared to the Z Flip 7, the device retains a functional 3.4-inch display that remains user-friendly and detailed. The 6.7-inch AMOLED panel offers a pleasant experience, making it feel more like a traditional smartphone when unfolded.
In terms of durability, the Z Flip 7 FE boasts Gorilla Glass Victus, a sturdy aluminum frame, and IP48 water and dust resistance. These features ensure longevity and protection against daily wear and tear. The device’s triple camera setup, including a 50Mp main lens, 12Mp ultrawide lens, and 10Mp selfie camera, mirrors the premium Z Flip 7 model.
While the Z Flip 7 FE does make some compromises compared to its flagship counterpart, such as a slightly less powerful chipset and limited color options, its overall performance remains impressive. Running on Samsung’s One UI 8 based on Android 16, the device guarantees software updates until 2032, ensuring longevity and enhanced user experience.
Despite its strengths, the Z Flip 7 FE falls short in addressing key issues from the Z Flip 6, including a modest 4000mAh battery and slow 25W charging. These drawbacks may deter users looking for a device with extended battery life and faster charging capabilities. However, the device’s competitive pricing and improved features make it a viable option for those seeking a foldable phone experience.
In conclusion, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE emerges as a practical and budget-friendly choice in the flip phone segment. While it may not revolutionize the market, its combination of affordability, durability, and performance makes it a worthy consideration. Whether you opt for the Z Flip 7 FE or explore other smartphone options, the device’s value proposition is undeniable for those intrigued by the allure of a flip phone.
