OnePlus Rumored to Embrace iPhone’s Action Button Concept

OnePlus, known for its innovative approach to smartphone design, is reportedly gearing up to make a significant change in its upcoming models. According to a leak from Weibo source Digital Chat Station, the company is set to replace its iconic Alert Slider with a feature akin to the iPhone’s Action Button. This move marks a departure from tradition for OnePlus, as the Alert Slider has been a staple since the OnePlus 2 release in 2015, allowing users to seamlessly switch between different modes without navigating menus.

The proposed “Magic Cube Key” is expected to offer more versatility than its predecessor. Instead of being limited to managing volume settings, users may customize it to execute various functions with a single press. These actions could range from muting the device and launching the camera to activating the flashlight, capturing screenshots, or opening specific apps. This potential functionality mirrors Apple’s Action Button, seen in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, albeit with a broader scope of applications.

While the exact debut model for this feature remains undisclosed, speculations point towards its introduction in the upcoming OnePlus 14 series or possibly the OnePlus 13T lineup. As enthusiasts await confirmation on this development, the absence of the OnePlus Open 2 this year adds a tinge of disappointment. Nevertheless, if OnePlus does embrace this change, it could signify a step towards enhancing user experience and embracing modern trends in smartphone interaction.
