Adding Cards to Google Wallet Just Got Easier
In a bid to streamline the process of adding debit and credit cards to Google Wallet, Google is gearing up to introduce a simpler and more convenient method for Android users. Currently, the procedure involves either scanning the card using your phone’s camera or entering the details manually, which can be quite laborious.
The upcoming feature, hinted at in the latest Google Play Services beta version 25.16.33, will enable users to add cards to Google Wallet with just a tap. References to “nfc add a card” and “nfc tap card details” in the code suggest a near field communication (NFC) based approach where users can hold their card close to the back of their device until it vibrates, seamlessly transferring the card details.
NFC technology, commonly used for tap-to-pay transactions in stores, will now facilitate the reverse process—allowing users to tap card details onto their phones. Although additional verification steps like entering the CVV code and bank verification may still be required for security purposes, the overall convenience of this new method is undeniable.
