Is Nothing’s Latest Teaser Hiding a Surprise for Fans?

Nothing, the London-based tech brand, has recently dropped a mysterious teaser that has left fans scratching their heads. The teaser features a retro image of the Pokémon Feraligatr, hinting at an upcoming product release. Given Nothing’s penchant for using Pokémon-themed codenames for its products, speculation is rife about what this new offering could be.

However, a closer look reveals some clues about what this product might not be. Nothing’s Community Manager, Rob Goodwin, shared the teaser on the Nothing community page under the title ‘Here comes Feraligatr,’ hinting at a new product. This rules out the possibility of it being a Nothing Phone (3) Pro or Ultra, especially since Nothing’s CEO, Carl Pei, previously indicated that the 3 series lineup was complete.

One theory circulating among fans is that the mysterious product could be the Nothing Phone (3a) Community Edition, a new variant of an existing model developed in collaboration with Nothing enthusiasts. But, labeling it as a completely new product seems like a stretch, especially considering past releases like the Nothing Phone (2a) Community Edition, which did not receive a unique codename.

Speculation also suggests that the enigmatic Feraligatr could mark Nothing’s foray into the tablet or smartwatch market. While Nothing has dabbled in smartwatches under its budget sub-brand CMF, such as the CMF Watch Pro 2, a premium smartwatch bearing the Nothing brand could rival offerings from tech giants like Google and Samsung.

Interestingly, amidst the excitement around new hardware, many Nothing users are eagerly anticipating software updates. The promise of Android 16 arriving “later this autumn” has kept users on their toes. Could Nothing be hinting at a software release instead, given that Feraligatr is Pokédex number 160?

As the speculation continues to swirl, one thing is clear: Nothing knows how to keep its fans on their toes. Whether it’s a new phone variant, a venture into tablets or smartwatches, or a surprise software update, the anticipation surrounding Nothing’s latest teaser is palpable. Stay tuned for more updates as Nothing continues to keep us guessing about what’s next in store.
