OnePlus Phones Set to Embrace iPhone’s Action Button

OnePlus, known for its innovative features, is rumored to be making a significant shift in its upcoming phone designs. According to a leak from the reputable source Digital Chat Station on Weibo, OnePlus is planning to replace its iconic Alert Slider with a new feature resembling the iPhone’s Action Button.

The Alert Slider, a staple in OnePlus phones since the OnePlus 2 release in 2015, has allowed users to effortlessly switch between ‘Silent,’ ‘Vibrate,’ and ‘Ringer’ modes without interacting with the screen. Despite attempts to remove it in the OnePlus 10T, only to bring it back due to user backlash with the OnePlus 11, OnePlus seems determined to make the change this time.

The rumored Magic Cube Key is expected to offer more versatility than the current Alert Slider. Users may be able to customize it to execute various actions with a single press, such as muting the phone, launching the camera, activating the flashlight, capturing a screenshot, or opening an app.

This new feature draws parallels to Apple’s Action Button introduced in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models, offering even more potential functionalities. While it remains unclear which OnePlus model will debut this innovative button, speculations point to its possible inclusion in the OnePlus 14 series later this year or even in the OnePlus 13T lineup.

As we anticipate the confirmation of this rumor, the absence of the OnePlus Open 2 this year might be disappointing news for fans. Nevertheless, if OnePlus follows through with this change, users can look forward to a more dynamic and user-friendly experience with their smartphones.
