The release of the Nintendo Switch 2 has sparked curiosity among gamers, especially regarding the compatibility of original Joy-Cons with the new console. While there were concerns about possible limitations, Nintendo has come forward to address these issues.

Good news for Nintendo enthusiasts – all original Switch controllers approved by Nintendo will work with the Switch 2. This includes the iconic Joy-Con Controllers, the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, and even controllers from older systems like the Nintendo 64 and Sega Mega Drive.

However, there is a catch. Despite being technically compatible, original Switch controllers may not offer full functionality on the Switch 2. For example, you can’t exit sleep mode on the new console using the Home Button on older controllers. This means you’ll need to start the console with a Switch 2 controller before switching to the older input method.

Furthermore, charging older Joy-Cons may be a bit tricky since the Switch 2 features larger and magnetic Joy-Cons. To charge them, you’ll still need to rely on existing methods like a Switch console, charging grip, or charging stand.

There are specific games that require the use of original Joy-Cons due to size differences or the absence of certain features like the IR sensor in the new controllers. Titles like Ring Fit Adventure and various Nintendo Labo kits fall into this category.

While these limitations may slightly dampen the excitement for some users, the overall message is clear – you can still make use of your beloved old Switch controllers on the new Switch 2. Nintendo is ensuring a level of backward compatibility that allows for a seamless transition between the two systems.

So, if you’re eyeing the Nintendo Switch 2 but are worried about losing access to your favorite controllers, fret not. Nintendo has got you covered, ensuring that your gaming experience remains as smooth and enjoyable as ever.
