GenAI, or generative AI, is not just a buzzword—it’s a game-changer in the workplace. A recent study by the London School of Economics and Protiviti revealed that genAI tools like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot are not stealing jobs but rather enhancing productivity. This study found that employees can save approximately 7.5 hours each week, translating to significant annual savings per employee.

In a world where time is money, this equates to roughly $18,000 saved per employee annually. The survey of 3,000 professionals showed that 70% were already leveraging AI tools, with younger generations leading the charge. Gen Z and millennials were the most frequent users, indicating a clear trend towards embracing AI for work tasks.

The top applications of genAI included writing and content creation, communication and collaboration, as well as data analysis and visualization. Despite the benefits, 60% of respondents had not received specific AI training. This underscores the potential for even greater productivity gains with tailored training programs.

Experts like Melanie Freeze from Gartner emphasize that GenAI is crucial for enhancing productivity and enabling employees to focus on high-value tasks. By automating mundane and repetitive work, genAI allows workers to shift their attention to more strategic endeavors. Nvidia’s Kari Briski highlights how AI-powered robots can handle routine tasks, freeing up human workers for tasks that require creativity and critical thinking.

The key takeaway from this survey is clear: genAI is a powerful ally in the quest for workplace efficiency. Embracing AI tools not only saves time and money but also empowers employees to unlock their full potential. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, integrating genAI into daily workflows will be essential for staying competitive and driving innovation.
